Sejon Balachandran, age 23, is a young artist born in Markham, Ontario. Sejon began his dance journey through competitive dance, training in hip hop, ballet, modern, jazz, contemporary, musical theatre, tap, and partnering. He has performed works created by many of North America’s top choreographers such as Mia Michaels, Teddy Forance, Lex Ishimoto, Chaz Buzan, and Talia Favia. Sejon has been awarded VIP scholarships, Breakout Artist scholarships at Break the Floor conventions, and has received top placements at The Dance Awards.
Sejon pursued dance at Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly known as Ryerson University) and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Performance Dance in 2023 with a minor in social sciences. He is currently completing his Bachelor of Education degree at the intermediate/senior level, with an expected graduation in 2026.
During his time at Toronto Metropolitan University, Sejon had the privilege of training under Tanya Evidente, Vicki St Denys, Louis Laberge-Côté, Robert Glumbeck, Kate Hilliard, Arsenio Andrade, and Ryan Lee. He has also had the opportunity to perform and collaborate with professional choreographers and companies including Rock Bottom, Rodney Diverlus, the Stephanie Lake Company, Daileidys Carrazana from the Malpaso Dance Company, and a work by Jesse Obremski from the Gibney Company later performed at Fall for Dance North in 2023.
Sejon has been a part of professional productions such as Bridge to Artists (Vlad Novitski), Colossus (Soloist, Stephanie Lake Company), Stepanova’s Nutcracker (2014), and multiple Fever After Darks. Sejon hopes to continue to explore his passion for dance by choreographing and instructing young passionate artists like himself. He always looks forward to connecting with artists with various skill sets to give them platforms to reach their full potential.
